Warren County favors Bennie Thompson as democrat to run for District 2 congressional seat
Warren County has favored U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson in the democratic primary election for congressional seat for Mississippi District 2.
The June 7 primary election polls opened at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. After the polls were closed, the results favored Thompson over Jerry Kerner on the Democrat ticket.
Thompson served as alderman of his hometown of Bolton from 1969 to 1972. He then served as the city’s mayor from 1973 to 1980.,
He chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and serves as co-chairman of a committee tasked with investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He has served in congress since 1993.
Thompson is expected to face the Republican nominee during the General Election on Nov. 8.
As of 8:30 p.m., the Republican polls showed a tight race between Ronald Eller and Brian Flowers, with Flowers having a slight lead.
