A Warren County man suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to River Region Emergency Room Thursday night.

Just after 10:30 p.m., Vicksburg-Warren 911 received a call from River Region stating that an individual had arrived by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Deputies arrived to interview the 18-year-old male who stated the gunshot was accidental. The victim stated to deputies he had a .22 rifle in the front seat of his truck. Upon moving some items over, the gun discharged, striking him in the leg.

At the time the call came in, the City of Vicksburg had just received another call of a shooting. There was a bit of confusion at first as to if this incident was related.

Deputies arrived at the victim’s home in the 4800 block of Gibson Road and found the truck and rifle. Upon searching the vehicle, it was determined the victim’s statements were accurate and there was no reason to believe otherwise.

The victim was treated at the emergency room.
