In a morning conference call Thursday, the Warren County Board of Supervisors reconvened their Monday meeting to discuss allowing in-person church services.

After a brief discussion, the consensus of the group was to follow the guidance from the State of Mississippi and the governor’s office.

On Tuesday, Gov. Tate Reeves issued eight pages of guidelines for the safe reopening of churches. Read the full guidelines here.

Reeves also stated that there was no need for churches to rush back to buildings to worship and urged everyone to continue to follow social distancing guidelines and hygiene recommendations.

The key points in the recommendations include:

  • Maintaining physical distancing, including controlling points of entry and exit.
  • Implement sanitation protocols and sanitizing shared resources after each use.
  • Avoid passing a plate or cup, or sharing microphones.
  • Create other ways to tithe without passing collection plates.
  • Replace choirs with soloists or ensembles using social distancing.
  • Consider offering face coverings to worshipers, and to staff and volunteers.
  • Screen and temperature check staff and volunteers before services.
  • Provide hand sanitizer at or near entrances.
