Vicksburg High School football player Kellen Washington has signed a collegiate scholarship to play for Miles College.

Since the age of five, Miles has been tearing up his competition on the gridiron, starting with the Vicksburg Packers. By the time he was nine-years-old, Washington knew that he would be a great athlete.

“It started getting easy for me so I just took it one day at a time,” Washington said.

Washington earned a starting spot as a sophomore with the Gators under former head coach Todd McDaniel. He eventually helped VHS to their first district title in over 30 years as a senior.

Washington mentioned that beating Callaway in the second round of the playoffs to advance to the semifinals remains one of his best memories in high school football. He ended his senior season with seven sacks and 31 tackles.

Many schools showed interest, however Washington decided that playing for Miles College would be the best choice for him.

“I like the environment and I really wanted to play out of Mississippi so I think I made the best choice,” Washington said.

Washington thanked those who helped him achieve this goal as he is already enrolled at the college and ready to play ball.

“I want to thank my parents (Tara and James Goodman), my coaches at VHS and my trainers Tommy Curtis Jr. and Jim McGowan,” Washington said.
