Watch: Former Miss Mississippi Holly Brand wows coaches on The Voice
Former Miss Mississippi Holly Brand took center stage during The Voice auditions and sparked excitement, not only from the crowd, but from the coaches as well.
Holly Brand, a 22-year-old pageant queen from Meridian, Mississippi, wowed the coaches on the Season 23 premiere of The Voice with her rendition of Faith Hill’s “Mississippi Girl”. Kelly Clarkson was so impressed that she hit her button within the first 30 seconds of the performance, followed by fellow coaches Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper.
As Brand hit an impressive whistle tone, the coaches watched in awe, but Blake Shelton refrained from hitting his button. This surprised the other coaches and elicited a joking response from Clarkson, who got up to check if Shelton’s button was working.
Horan tried to entice Brand to join his team by comparing her to his “good friend” Maren Morris and promising “big things” in their future. Chance acknowledged that Horan’s argument was a tough one to beat, but tried his best to persuade Brand by saying that he could take her to the end of the competition.
Clarkson emphasized her experience in country music and her impressive track record in working with country artists, stating that she knows a “helluva lot more than these two” other coaches.
Ultimately, Brand chose to join Team Kelly, citing Clarkson’s impressive track record as the reason for her decision. Brand and Shelton go way back, with the contestant sharing that she opened for him at a concert when she was 12 years old, which suggests that Shelton might have had a good chance of recruiting her if he had turned his chair.
Overall, Brand’s impressive performance and the coaches’ responses demonstrate the high level of talent on this season of The Voice. Fans can look forward to seeing what other surprises and impressive performances are in store for the rest of the season.
