WC advances to the second round after defeating St. Martin 7-0

Warren Central High School softball team will advance to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2019 after a 7-0 win against St. Martin.
“I’m super excited for the kids because they played hard tonight and we’re definitely not ready for it to end,” WC head coach Dana McGivney said.
The Lady Vikes grabbed three runs in the first inning where Abby Morgan, Kamryn Morson, and Adalyn Anderson all picked up hits.
Makayla Jackson would earn a hit in the second and reach second base on an error but the score remained 3-0.
WC stayed up by three until the fifth when Jenn Smith got an RBI along with Anderson who got a big hit to bring in another run as the Lady Vikes went up 5-0 heading into the sixth. St. Martin failed to get a run as Morgan struck out a couple of batters.
Jackson would single again in the sixth and eventually stole a base at home along with Sarah Cameron Fancher to put the score at 7-0 going into the final inning.
The Lady Vikes’ defense stepped up again in the final inning where things ended with Morgan striking out the final batter.
Jackson led things at the plate by going 3 for 3.
“I’m really excited that we won and it’s in our plans to keep working hard and keep moving forward,” Jackson said.
Anderson went 2 for 3 with one RBI and celebrated her 17th birthday tonight with a win.
“We came out strong and we knew what we had to do and the next round is going to be challenging but if we play like we did tonight it won’t be a problem,” Anderson said.
Fancher, Morgan, and Morson all had one hit. Morgan struck out five batters on the night.
WC will face Brandon on Thursday if the weather permits.
