Warren Central High School boy’s basketball team, The Vikings, pulled off a big win against Pearl on Friday night in a 55-50 victory.

The first quarter started off slow on both sides, but Warren Central took the early 6-3 lead with shots coming from Taylor Mitchell and Gaylon Turner.

After bringing in some freshmen during the second quarter, the Vikings began to pick up the pace offensively.

The Pirates eventually took the lead but DeCorey Knight Jr. hit a three pointer to bring the Vikings back while L.J. Reynolds and Turner pitched in on some layups.

As time wound down in the second quarter, freshman Jaylon Winters knocked down a long three pointer behind the half-court line. This left Warren Central only trailing by as they entered halftime with a score of 24-23.

Big plays made by the Vikings kept them afloat in the third quarter with Knight hitting another three pointer and Garrett Fisher making two shots.

The Vikings struggled to keep their lead in the fourth quarter due questionable calls made by the referees, but they found themselves staying ahead and finishing the game strong.

Turner and Mitchell both finished with 11 points and Knight ended the game with eight on the board. Winters contributed six.

The Vikings will be on the road Tuesday to face Terry.
