Warren Central secured a 27-6 district win over Ridgeland High School on Thursday after a big second-half performance.

Aden Greer took the handoffs in the first quarter as he picked up a couple of first downs. The Vikings converted on fourth down twice early in the game but both resulted in turnovers. TK Qualls, Ronnie Blossom, and Landon Green all made defensive stops as the game remained scoreless at the end of the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Ridgeland’s DK Wallace broke out for a 48-yard touchdown run to put the Titans up 6-0.

The Vikings responded with a 90-yard drive after Greer broke out for a long run along with Mike Hall who picked up 20 yards on a run. Jadarius Miller stepped up next and gained the 18-yard touchdown run while Jonah Artman kicked the successful extra point to put the score at 7-6.

On the next drive, Qualls blasted the running back in back-to-back plays to force a punt with 1:26 left in the half. Nash Morgan hit Greer on a 28-yard screen and Maddox Lynch also caught a first down pass to get into Titans’ territory. Time eventually expired as Morgan took a sack shortly before halftime.

Coming out of halftime both teams went back and forth with changing possessions. WC eventually got on track by letting Eric Collins Jr. pound the ball up the middle and he ended up scoring a 13-yard touchdown. Artman kicked the successful extra point as WC led 14-6

A nasty hit by Larry Reynolds Jr. forced a fumble that gave the Vikings possession of the ball. WC made their way back down the field with the help of Greer who picked up positive yards. Collins ran in another score from 8 yards out that gave WC the 20-6 lead after a failed extra point.

Late in the fourth quarter, Morgan hit Jaylon Winters for a 40-yard touchdown pass. The Vikings went up 27-6 after Artman’s extra point.

Ja’Mari Gaines grabbed a sack in the fourth quarter for WC.

The Vikings improved to 3-3 and 1-0 in district play and they will face Vicksburg High School next Friday.
