WC picked up wins over Germantown and Yazoo City on Saturday

Warren Central High School baseball team crushed Yazoo City 13-0 and picked up a huge 3-2 victory over Germantown on Saturday.
“I’m proud of them and they came to play,” WC head coach Randy Broome said. The last couple of years we would get down and throw in the towel but we didn’t do that today but I’m proud of us competing all the way to the last out.”
Game one vs Germantown:
Connor Watkins sent three batters back to the dugout immediately in the first inning just before Seth Sterling and Cade Fairley picked up hits while Hayes Loper scored on a passed to put WC up 3-0.
The Vikings wouldn’t get back on the board until the third inning before showing out in the fourth.
A hit by Watkins and Charlie Appleton along with a double by Ryan Nelson pushed WC’s lead to 9-0 in the fourth. Sterling and Watkins brought in a few more RBIs as the Vikings went up 13-0 by the end of the fourth.
Watkins would strikeout 10 batters in the win and only allow one hit and one run. He also had two hits and two RBIs along with Nelson.
Sterling had three RBIs and two hits while Blake Channell had one hit.
Game 2 vs Germantown
Channell got a double early in the game but the game would remain scoreless until the third inning.
Harrison would get a RBI for the Mavericks in the third as they went up 1-0. WC wouldn’t respond until the sixth when Watkins grounded into fielder’s choice and Sterling got a hit followed by a RBI from Maddox Lynch to tie the game at 1.
Presley would get a trouble for Germantown in the seventh to set up their next run as they took a 2-1 lead over WC.
The Vikings responded well when they went up to bat starting with bunt by Ismael Trujillo and a RBI from Channell along with a huge sacrifice from Landers that brought in the final score to end the game as WC starts the season with a 2-0 record.
Channell went 2 for 4 while Sterling and Jack Wright both finished with a hit.
Brooks Willoughby struck out five and Landers came in relief to strikeout two in the win.
The Vikings will travel to Natchez on Monday.
