With WC getting a taste of the playoffs last season, the Vikings took their hunger for success into the summer.

“We lost some decent players but one thing I’ve seen that made big improvements on is coming together as a team,” Head Coach Keith Williams said. “We saw a lot of things this summer that we have to work on but I have to give credit to our football program because those guys who are playing down there came back more stronger and physical.”

After winning eight ball games in the 2021-2022 season, the Vikings bounced back this summer with 14 wins, while knocking offense schools such as Clinton and Humphrey’s County.

One of the best performances over the summer by WC was against the defending State Champions Raymond High School. Though they lost 50-46, they put up a good fight.

“There were a lot of us playing varsity for the first time last year but we had a real solid summer and we have some things to improve on,” Garrett Orgas said.

The Vikings are built with young talent. A lot of players moved up from the ninth-grade squad and contributed heavily throughout the summer.

“We got off to a rough start but the team chemistry started coming together after a while,” LJ Reynolds said.

“We’re building chemistry and getting to know each other’s strengths,” said Jaylen Winters.

“We’re just exploring our options and seeing what everybody can do to prepare for next season,” Roosevelt Harris, Jr. said. Teammate Garrett Turner agreed by stating, “we just have to work on the little things like teamwork and communication.”

The Vikings have wrapped up their summer basketball play and are looking for a winning season beginning later on this year.
