The Warren County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday morning and approved to accept the donation from the Golding family of land for a new community park.

On Feb. 7, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen met and approved a resolution that would close Riverfront Park and accept a donation of two lots near Golding Barge Lines for a new park site.

The property, located at Oak and Lee streets, provides a majestic view of the Mississippi River as it turns south towards Natchez and New Orleans.

“Vicksburg has given us so much, provided us with such a good workforce for our company that we want to give back and we want to turn this land that we are not using, that is vacant, and let the city and county turn it into the new riverfront park,” explained John Reid Golding.

Riverfront Park is owned by both the city and county, with the northern section leased from the Cashman family. Both the city and county manage the park and share the costs of upkeep. The board’s resolution was then scheduled to be presented to the supervisors for their approval.

Warren County officially accepted the park resolution on Tuesday and will form a committee to consider design options.
