We all take things for granted and it’s time to rethink

We have a problem with taking things for granted.

I am not talking about anyone specifically, but observing a status quo that seems prominent among people in general.

We go through life ‘expecting’ certain things. We expect our credit card to not decline, we expect our vehicle to get us from point A to point B and we expect that our friends will be by our side no matter what.

It is often wise to pause and practice a bit of humility – to go through your day and thank the people who are kind and helpful. Check on others when you have plenty, as others may not. It is the small, unimportant moments that carry the most impact.

When you stop and think about the tiny, yet powerful tools at our disposal, such as saying a simple “thank you”, it can be a true blessing. When we can pause and take a moment to be grateful for the things we have and appreciate the ones in our lives, we can start to see more joy in our own lives and start to feel more happiness in a world that seems void of it at times.

The pandemic forced many into isolation and took away many freedoms we thought we would never have to worry about.  The ability to hug our neighbors, family reunions, bar-b-que’s and even the simplest routine of sending the kids off to school were all taken hostage by the smallest of things.

While things are not back to ‘normal’ in the world, we can start to experience a bit of those freedoms again. It is time to start taking back our happiness, reconnecting with loved ones and exploring the world with new eyes and a new purpose.

When you start thinking about what you can’t control, it’s helpful to remember to appreciate the little things that work in your favor most of the day and those that are there with you sharing those memories.
