The Vicksburg Warren County area is in the middle of high risk, 9 out of 10 paths for tornadoes and historically bad weather today.
“I don’t remember having seen that often in my career. This is setting up to be a potentially dangerous event with winds in excess of 75 mph, hail as large as baseball size and long, dangerous track tornadoes” explained Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer.
The Vicksburg Warren County area “…has now been placed at HIGH risk for severe storms, primarily for this afternoon and evening”, said Elfer in an email to area agencies. “While the exact location of storms developing is not certain, this is setting up to be a potentially dangerous situation for our area. Risks include winds in excess of 75 mph, baseball-sized hail, and dangerous long-track tornadoes.
Now is the time to ensure that your shelter plans and alert systems are in order. Please pay attention to the latest forecasts and changing conditions.”
“Somebody, today, in this area is going to more than likely, experience a dangerous storm” stressed a concerned Elfer.
Elfer cautioned “I can’t emphasize the word dangerous enough.”
