An error in the data for COVID-19 cases Wednesday caused the Mississippi State Department of Health to over-report cases by about 900.

State Health Officer Thomas Dobbs announced during Gov. Tate Reeves’ news conference that the actual number of cases reported Wednesday is 2,746, not 3,658 reported earlier.

The number is still a new one-day record for the state, and the 15th day reporting more than 1,000 cases, and the fourth day in last eight days reporting more than 2,000 cases.

The Vicksburg Daily News will provide a complete update as soon as possible.
