Wilkerson wins the Porter’s Chapel Golden Helmet Award

Porter’s Chapel Academy football player John Michael Wilkerson has received the the Golden Helmet Award for his performance last season.

The award was announced late last month on Facebook, as COVID-19 prevented to school’s athletes from having an in-person banquet.

Wilkerson completed his senior season playing under head coach and athletic director Blake Purvis. The Eagles finished with a 2-7 record.

Wilkerson played on both sides of the ball last season and finished with 229 rushing yards and 122 receiving yards on offense. His key position was on defense where he finished the season with 55 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Wilkerson showed his dedication to his team last season as he rarely came off the field. His talents were much needed for the Eagles.

The Golden Helmet Award is given to the team’s Most Valuable Player and Wilkerson has proven that he deserves the award for his performance during his senior season.
