William "Russell" Melton

William “Russell” Melton passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the age of 91. Russell was born May 7, 1931, the eldest of eight children in Bruce, MS. He was very kind and always giving; he was the smartest man known. He worked hard his whole life throughout Mississippi and Texas and then eventually retired from the Vicksburg Bridge Commission. His co-workers called him Roscoe.

He loved God, his family, and hunting. He ministered to his love of God by giving bibles to as many of his family members as possible. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed sharing his love of hunting with his children, grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

He will always be remembered for his smile. He was hilariously funny, and he could make you laugh for hours. You never saw him without a smile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Velma Melton, son David Melton, former wives Laura Jean Stone Melton, Dot Gladwell Melton, and Nora Moulder Melton, brother Wilmer Melton, and sister Sue Galloway.

He is survived by his children, Jimmy Melton (Maria), Lois Martin (Larry), Sandy Pettway (Lester), Lee Hughes (Nathan), and Alice Bell (Jason). He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren among countless other relatives and friends who adored him.

Services will be held at noon, November 23, 2022, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be immediately before the service.
