Willis Thompson files to run for Mayor of Vicksburg

Former South Ward Alderman Willis Thompson will now run for Mayor of Vicksburg.
Thompson made the announcement in a press release Friday afternoon that he will be seeking the democratic nomination for Mayor.
“I believe Vicksburg is a great place to live and invest. If I am elected as mayor, I will work to put the best and brightest people in place to form a team that will give the citizens of Vicksburg the results they deserve. My administration will choose People over Politics,” Thompson said. “We will make smart decisions and be responsible with the citizens’ tax dollars. My focus is making Vicksburg marketable through: improving public safety, beautification, improving the quality of life, and fostering a business friendly environment.”
Willis Thompson served as South Ward Alderman from 2013 to 2017. He was defeated by Alex Monsour in 2017 by less than 10 votes and he will now challenge Shawn Jackson, who has also qualified to run in the democratic primary. The winner will face incumbent Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. in the general election.
“There is no limit to what Vicksburg can achieve with the right leadership. No more broken promises and
kicking the can. I am challenging Vicksburg to expect more!” exclaimed Thompson.
