Winds fuel construction fire on Highway 3
A controlled burn spread to cover about two acres of brush and debris on Highway 3 Tuesday night, drawing a large response from Warren County and Vicksburg fire fighters to regain control of the blaze.
The fire spread over a massive area but was still about 300 yards from the roadway, making it challenging for fire fighters to get water to the location. Powerful winds threatened to spread the fire into the tree line, but fire fighters managed to get the blaze back under control.
Officials from the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) are en route to the location with a bulldozer and will likely be on the scene all night to ensure the fire remains under control.
Fire Boss Jerry Briggs would like to remind everyone that sizeable burns must be approved by the MFC and even small controlled burns should be reported to your local firehouse before commencing.
