Winterguard seeks sponsors to support 2025–2026 season
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central High School Winterguard program is gearing up for an exciting 2025–2026 season and is reaching out to local businesses and community members for support. With two teams — the Varsity “Dynasty Winterguard” and the Junior Varsity “Legacy Winterguard” — the program continues to grow, offering students a unique opportunity to express themselves through art, movement, and performance.
Winterguard, often described as “the sport of the arts,” combines dance, drama, and equipment work (including flags, rifles, and sabres) to music in a theatrical performance. Although it’s not yet a widely known activity, it has been steadily gaining recognition in Mississippi and across the country.
However, the costs to compete at the high school level can be challenging for students and their families. Between costumes, props, show equipment, travel, and competition fees, many members struggle to cover their expenses.
That’s where the community comes in.
“We never turn down a member simply because they can’t afford it,” said Taylor Powell, Warren Central’s Color Guard coach. “Every student who wants to be part of this team deserves that chance — no matter what their financial situation looks like.”
This season, Powell is introducing the team’s new names — Dynasty and Legacy — which reflect the program’s growing identity and purpose.
“The names are a new addition this year,” Powell said. “I wanted the kids to be part of something that had meaning. For our more experienced varsity team, I wanted them to create a Dynasty — something younger members could look up to and strive for. For the younger, less experienced team, the name Legacy just fit perfectly. This team will leave an impact not just with their performances but through their character and values.”
The upcoming season’s shows promise to deliver powerful storytelling and emotional performances:
• Dynasty Winterguard presents “Dynasty Divided” — a visually stunning performance depicting two kingdoms fighting for the crown, performed to the song “Dynasty” by Miia.
• Legacy Winterguard presents “First Show Fever” — a high-energy, lighthearted show about students attending their first concert for a famous pop star, performed to “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga.
To help bring these shows to life, the Winterguard is offering three levels of business sponsorships:
🥉 Bronze – $50
Recognition on the team’s social media pages and mentions during competitions, banquets, and community events.
🥈 Silver – $75
Includes all Bronze benefits plus the business name printed on the back of the team’s official shirts.
🥇 Gold – $100
Includes all Bronze and Silver benefits plus a short promotional video made by the Winterguard team, showcasing the business and its products or services for use on social media.
Powell hopes that community support will allow the students to compete on equal footing with other teams that use props and professional equipment.
“I’ve been working with this program in some capacity for three years,” she said. “This year, I want our team to have the props and resources that help bring the story to life. We are under new leadership with our head band director Jeremy Donald and he has been so amazing at working with me to try and give our kids what they deserve.”
Businesses or individuals interested in sponsoring the Warren Central Winterguard can contact Coach Taylor Powell or Director Jeremy Donald for more information or to make a contribution. All contributions should be made through The Big Blue Band Boosters for Indoor Guard.
