Woman alleges she was raped by a VPD officer
In a post on social media, an area woman claims a VPD officer sexually assaulted her.
The post, which has 1900 shares at the time of this writing, says the officer allegedly took her behind an “…abandoned hospital and assaulted me on duty.”
Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs stated, “The Vicksburg Police Department is taking the appropriate actions.”
Police Chief Penny Jones responded, “The City of Vicksburg’s Police Department is investigating an allegation made against one of my officers. At this time, the officer is on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. We are taking the appropriate measures to keep it fair and impartial. I can’t give any details as it is an ongoing investigation.”
Chief Jones added that an outside agency would conduct the investigation and that she would release more information in the morning.
The Vicksburg Daily News will not release the name of the victim. The name of the officer has not been released.
