A woman is in police custody in connection with this afternoon’s shooting at the New Main Apartments in Vicksburg.

Moses Luckett, 37, was shot once in the chest and died on the scene. A woman has been arrested for the shooting.

An altercation between Luckett and the woman started Thursday at a gas station at the corner of Mission 66 and Alcorn Drive. Witnesses said she is friend of victim’s son. Luckett had helped her previously, allowing her to stay in the apartment until recently.

The woman, who has not been named, yet, went to Luckett’s apartment around 12:25 p.m. Friday and shot him in the chest when he answered the door, according to Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore. She took a second shot through the door after he closed it.

She fled the scene in a white pickup truck. Yazoo County sheriff’s deputies captured her on State Highway 3 just north of the Warren County line.
