At around 9:40 a.m. Sunday, area public safety radio traffic indicated a woman had jumped into the Mississippi River. Rescuers leapt into action, and the woman was located on the bank below Riverfront Park.

A vessel from Ergon marine idled in the river observing her but could not get close enough to retrieve her.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace made his way down the slope of the river bank to attempt to rescue her. He appeared to be talking to her while awaiting rescue boats to arrive.

Numerous agencies launched vessels from the waterfront to come to the area to assist.  She was finally safely rescued by a Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks boat, and they are headed to the city waterfront.

It is unclear if the woman was attempting to harm herself or just out for a swim.
