Woman shot in Walmart; Vicksburg police have the suspect in custody

A woman was shot inside the Vicksburg Walmart at 12:11 p.m., the suspected shooter is in custody.

As first reported in a live from the Vicksburg Daily News, at 12:11 p.m. a gunshot rang out in Walmart in the pharmacy area. “It sounded like a pallet hit the ground,” said witness and retired firefighter Sammy Brocato. “It was just one shot.”

A 26-year-old and as-yet-unidentified woman was shot once with the bullet striking her in the rib cage. Her wounds are not believed to be life-threatening. The shooter, a 50-year-old woman from Louisiana, according to radio traffic, was apprehended soon thereafter. Vicksburg police spotted the vehicle the suspected shooter was believed to be driving and was able to stop the vehicle and arrest the suspected shooter without further incident.

Two young men ran from the scene behind Walmart. At first, they were believed to be involved in the shooting but Vicksburg Police clarified one of the individuals was recognized by an officer and wanted for outstanding warrants. He was not captured at the time of this report, however, the other young man was detained and released.

The young man was last seen in the woods behind Walmart wearing white pants and no shirt.

This is the second time Walmart has closed in the past week. On Thursday the store had to close due to a computer failure.
