Work continues to hinder traffic on Mississippi River bridge
As daylight dwindles, crews continue to work to safely remove the damaged sign truss from the foot of the Mississippi River bridge on U.S. Interstate 20.
Traffic has been blocked from using the bridge most of the day due to the damage caused by a car hauler that lost control at around 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20.
The hauler must also be removed from the scene, a challenge in its own right.
While inconvenient for commuters, this work is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone driving under the truss. The impact of the car hauler knocked one beam completely off and dislodged the other, leaving the sign truss in a perilous position.
