Porter’s Chapel Academy basketball player Yakia Burns scored 32 points for the Eagles in their loss Thursday night to North Sunflower Academy.

Burns is a senior transfer from Vicksburg High School where she helped the Gators reach the semifinals last year. To go along with her 32 points, Burns also had 11 rebounds, seven steals, and three assists.

With her successful high school stats, Burns has scholarship offers from Co-Lin Co and Mississippi Delta community colleges, the University of Southern Mississippi, Austin Peay State University and many more schools that have expressed interest. She is being coached by PCA head coach Casey Fisher and assistant coaches DeAndre King and Chandler Ellis.

Burns was also on the Vicksburg Daily News All-County list last season. She continues to improve her playing skills each season and is now leading the Eagles.

PCA will go on the road next Tuesday to play Sharkey-Issaquena where Burns is expected to have another great game.
