Governor Tate Reeves and fitness icon Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils, announced Thursday that three Mississippi schools have been selected to receive a DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center valued at $100,000.
Woolfolk Middle School in Yazoo City is one of the schools chosen by the multi-million dollar DON’T QUIT! Campaign for demonstrating leadership in helping students stay healthy and fit. Jefferson County Junior High School in Fayette and McLaurin Attendance Center in Florence were also chosen to receive the state-of-the-art fitness centers.
“I can’t wait to see what our teachers and students can do with these new fitness centers,” said Governor Reeves in a statement. “I’m grateful to Jake and his entire team for their focus on instilling healthy habits in our young people. Their hard work and dedication are helping provide crucial building blocks for our Mississippi kids to become healthy adults. I am proud that Mississippi is able to participate in this wonderful initiative!”
The fitness centers are financed through public and private partnerships with leading companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Amerigroup Foundation and Nike. The program does not rely on any taxpayer dollars or state funding, and all the fitness equipment is manufactured in the United States.
The new fitness centers will be unveiled during ribbon cutting ceremonies this fall.See a typo? Report it here.
