Yazoo County man released on bond after being found guilty of rape

A Yazoo County man, Jimmy Allen was recently found guilty by the Yazoo County Circuit Court Jury of raping his daughter.
Allen was found guilty of six counts of statutory rape but was then granted a 75,000 dollar bond on Tuesday, June 2, to the dismay of the court. After being placed on suicide watch following conviction on Tuesday, April 5, he was released from jail and currently awaits his appeal.
Allen was sentenced on April 14 to serve 30 years for each count of statutory rape. Prosecutors claim he is a danger to himself and his community. Still, the judge agreed to allow him to bond out.
District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver stated, “today’s decision, granting Allen a bond after being convicted by a jury, was very disturbing, shocking, and disappointing to the victim and her family.”
Allen’s child victim was just 11 years old when the sexual abuse began. District Attorney Malone-Oliver noted that the bond has allowed Allen to return to his community following letters received by the court supporting his release. Veronica Starling, wife of the current mayor of Yazoo, was one of the people who wrote a letter on behalf of Allen’s release.
