Yazoo County shooting result of “illegal betting on horse races”, according to authorities
According to authorities, the Yazoo County shooting on Friday was a result of illegal betting on horse races.
Yazoo County deputies were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. for a shooting call at the horse track on Thomas Road, between Vaughn and Pickens. The initial report mentioned two victims were involved. However, Chief Investigator Noble Brooks Jr. told the Vicksburg Daily News that only one victim was confirmed.
“We were able to speak with the people on the scene and found there were possibly two victims shot but we could only confirm one at the time. We determined that this shooting happened as a result of illegal betting on horse races,” stated Brooks.
“Only one victim was confirmed, a 26-year-old Black male, Eric Bouldin, Jr. Bouldin was transported by vehicle to Merit Health in Madison where he was then airlifted to UMMC in Jackson and is in critical condition,” Brooks added.
According to Brooks, the victim was already transported by the time deputies arrived to investigate. Four horses were found shot on the property and confirmed dead.
The investigation is still ongoing.
