Yazoo police investigating murder of 13-year-old child

The Yazoo City Police Department has arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of a 13-year-old boy that took place Saturday evening.

According to Yazoo County Coroner, Ricky Shivers, at 7:32 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, Yazoo County Central dispatch received a 911 call in reference to a shooting on 11th Street near Prentiss Avenue in Yazoo City.

Arriving patrol officers found a victim lying in the street with bicycles nearby.  Soon after, paramedics with Pafford EMS arrived on the scene and the victim was pronounced deceased.

According to Ricky Shivers, Yazoo County Coroner, the victim was identified as 13-year-old DeMonte Montreal Lee.  Shivers further stated that Lee had been shot multiple times.  The body was transported to the office of State Medical Examiner for autopsy.

The death is being investigated as a homicide by the Yazoo City Police Department. Police Chief Jay Winstead said James Banks, 20, was arrested and taken into custody. Additional arrests are possible
