The Vicksburg YMCA has hosted an Easter sunrise worship service for the past 70 years. Usually the event is held at the top of Fort Hill in the Vicksburg National Military Park, but the COVID-19 crisis has forced a change in the location and format.

This year, the service will be held at the Halls Ferry Road Tennis Court parking lot (1264 South Frontage Road). Worshipers are asked to stay in their cars and roll their windows down. They can also tune in to the service from home on V105.5 FM, or watch it streamed live on the Vicksburg Daily News Facebook page.

The YMCA wants to be in compliance with all of the latest orders attempting to stop the spread of COVID-19 but is still obligated to spread the message of Jesus Christ, which is why the event will go on, but with more safety precautions.

“Stopping the spread of the virus is the right response for the time,” YMCA CEO Phillip Doiron said.

The event will be held on Sunday, April 12, at 7 a.m. with music by Patrick Smith and service by ministers Kevin Bradley and Joe Mosely. Listen live at V105.5 or watch on Facebook.
