Zion Williamson steps up to help Smoothie King Center workers
New Orleans Pelicans basketball star Zion Williamson has pledged to pay the salaries of Smoothie King Center workers for the next 30 days.
The Smoothie King Center is the arena where the Pelicans played all of their home games before the NBA suspended the basketball season due to COVID-19. The 2019-2020 season was Williamson’s first year in the NBA after his stellar college career at Duke University.
Smoothie King Center workers would have been hit hard by the suspension of the NBA games until Williamson stepped up to help.
“Some of the most special people I have met are those who work at the Smoothie King Center,” Williamson wrote in an Instagram post.
Before the season’s suspension, Williamson was averaging 23.6 points per game.
