Snoop Dogg Carries Olympic Torch in Final Leg
SAINT-DENIS, France – Snoop Dogg carried the Olympic Flame this morning in Saint-Denis, France, as one of the final torchbearers for the Paris 2024 Games. The relay began in April in Olympia, Greece.
Carl Diem, the chief organizer of the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, introduced the tradition of the Olympic torchbearer. The torch relay draws inspiration from the ancient Greek custom of using fire as a symbol of purity and the pursuit of perfection. Runners carry the flame, lit in Olympia, Greece, to the host city, symbolizing the connection between the ancient and modern Games.
Snoop Dogg will also help cover the Olympic Games in Paris as part of a strategy by U.S. broadcasters to boost ratings, following lackluster viewership for the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Other celebrities involved include Cardi B, Kelly Clarkson, and Peyton Manning, with more planned. Dolly Parton has contributed a cover of “We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You” for promotional material.
