Constitution week observed in Vicksburg Sept. 21
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — As the United States observes Constitution Week Sept. 17-23, Vicksburg and Warren County will mark the occasion with a bell-ringing ceremony Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Museum.
The event will join communities nationwide in ringing bells to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution, which this year marks its 238th anniversary. Founding Father John Adams once called the document “the greatest single effort of national deliberation that the world has ever seen,” while George Washington described it as “little short of a miracle.”
The program will include a proclamation by Vicksburg Mayor Willis Thompson and remarks by Commander Tara Rivers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Department of Mississippi, District 5. The ceremony will conclude with attendees ringing bells together. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bells, though a limited number will be available on-site.
The event is sponsored by the Ashmead Chapter and Pathfinder Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Sarah Randolph Boone Society of the Children of the American Revolution and the Dr. Joseph Warren Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
