Press Release: Bailey Marks One-Year Anniversary as Ward 2 Alderwoman

Vicksburg, Miss. —July, 8,2026

Alderwoman Vickie Bailey today announced reflections on her first year serving as Alderwoman for Ward 2 in the City of Vicksburg, emphasizing proactive leadership, real accountability, canvassing neighborhoods, promoting & participating community engagement, and taking the initiative to “inspect what we all expect.”

Actual “Boots on the ground!”.

It has been one year since Bailey was sworn in, and she says the City has worked to put practical structure and strong direction in place so progress can be more consistent and effective.

“For years, I’ve said this city has always had the potential… we’ve just needed the opportunity and alignment to fully bring that potential to life.”

“I’ve always believed in Vicksburg. What excites me now is seeing that belief beginning to turn into action.”

“Growth takes time, but momentum starts now. The important thing is that Vicksburg is moving in the right direction.”

“Many of us have always seen and recognized the authentic value in Vicksburg.”

Bailey said her first year focused on shifting the City’s approach from reactive responses to proactive governance—holding residents and the workforce accountable for both action and follow-through. She added that transparent, measured work centered on real results is essential to ensuring that reform becomes visible and sustainable.

“What we are doing, is a major step forward for Vicksburg. It’s bringing opportunity, investment, and momentum—and it confirms what many of us have always known: there is real value in this city.”

First-Year Recap: Proactive Leadership, Real Accountability, and Community Connection

Bailey noted that the past year included necessary restructuring and reorganization of departments and personnel designed to improve city effectiveness and coordination. She said these changes were not immediate, some are still being made, nevertheless progress is underway as the city lays stronger groundwork for clearer priorities and better delivery of services.

Bailey also emphasized the role of participation in the success of reform.

“Progress requires participation. This year, we asked residents and businesses to step up and take part in the process of change we all want to see in Vicksburg”.

She credited the courage and initiative of the Board, Community Organizations, Businesses, and Individuals for helping keep the focus on decisions that move the City of Vicksburg progressively forward.

Neighborhood Engagement: Keeping Ward 2 Informed in Real Time

Throughout the year, Bailey canvased and met with community residents across Ward 2 to see firsthand by meeting and talking to ensure residents were seen and heard. Bailey said that throughout this year she will host monthly meet and greet neighborhood sessions to keep residents informed, connected, and engaged. The goal, she said, is real-time communication so people are not left guessing about policies, procedures, or development in their neighborhoods and our city.

Partnerships and Programming for Youth, Families, and Seniors

In addition to governance and neighborhood outreach, Bailey highlighted ongoing efforts to build partnerships across the Vicksburg community and develop initiatives benefiting youth, young adults, adults, and seniors.

“My life and work has always been about creating opportunity for youth and families.”

“Vicksburg is home for me and my family.”

Vicksburg’s Economic Momentum: Investments Creating Jobs and Opportunity

Bailey also pointed to economic momentum taking shape for the community. In 2025, Vicksburg announced $4.6B+ in investments across major projects including Ergon Expansion, The VAPS Entergy Power Plant, Vicksburg Shipyard Inc, Amazon Web Services, and steel supplier A.C. Campana. Bailey said these projects are expected to create 635 permanent new jobs (including 285 direct and 350+ indirect) and an additional 4,000+ construction jobs over approximately 4–5 years while construction is underway.

She stressed that proactive local leadership and workforce preparation are critical so Vicksburg residents and families can benefit from the growth happening in the city.

Looking Ahead: Year Two Commitment to Results

As Bailey enters year two, she said her priorities remain the same: proactive governance, consistent engagement, and accountability that produces results.

Bailey said that the upcoming initiatives/work/programs will focus on creating real opportunities for everyday people who do not have to leave Vicksburg to succeed. Her commitment centers on mentorship, coaching, and workforce readiness aimed at developing leadership discipline and practical tools for long-term success.

Looking ahead, Bailey announced new initiatives rooted in timeless principles that strengthen families and communities while preparing citizens for future opportunities.

Year Two Initiatives

• Shaping Up For the Future

• Molding and Developing the Next Generation

• Vicksburg Simply Beautiful Citywide Campaign

We will be partnering with churches, schools, nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses, and neighborhood associations to support programs that promote leadership, wellness, workforce readiness, beautification, and community prosperity.

“Sometimes the best way to move forward is to remember what worked. My vision is to build upon proven foundations while embracing new opportunities that will prepare Vicksburg for the future.”

“One year down, and the work is just beginning. Together, we are building a stronger Vicksburg—one neighborhood, one family, one opportunity, one day at a time. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve.”

“Momentum has begun, but it is not as fast as I would like it to be.”

“Reform requires focus… follow-through… patience, consistency, and the willingness to keep showing up even when obstacles and criticisms remain.”

Bailey concluded by reaffirming her commitment to disciplined transparent leadership centered on the needs of the people of Vicksburg—especially youth, families, and workers.

“Through it all, I want to acknowledge something simple: I do this because I love Vicksburg.”
