Aurora Borealis thrills Vicksburg, may happen again tonight
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, were visible in the skies above Vicksburg and Warren County last night. Forecasters say they may also appear this evening.
Carmen Hancock contacted the Vicksburg Daily News with one of her photos of the aurora from the county. From downtown Vicksburg, we were able to verify the ‘red light in the sky’ and then asked readers of the Vicksburg Daily News to post their pictures of the ‘Northern Lights.’ Within 30 minutes, over 60 photos were posted.
Forecasters say the Aurora may also be visible tonight, November 12, 2025. You may be able to see the lights with your eyes, but using a cell phone on the ‘night’ setting while holding the phone still will give you the best chance of capturing them. The actual aurora borealis line will be closer to the Tennessee/Kentucky border, but will be visible, just like last night, in our area.
For the best chances of seeing the phenomenon without the aid of your cell phone camera, travel to a rural area with minimal light interference. As a bonus, there is also a meteor shower happening. You may see a shooting star in addition to the light show.
