City names new permanent City Clerk, Fire Chief, and Police Chief

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg ratified the organizational chart and a named permanent City Clerk, Chief of the Fire Department, and Police chief personnel in this afternoon’s city board meeting.

Deborah Kasier-Nickson has been appointed as permanent city clerk.

Larry Burns has been named the new Vicksburg Police Chief, and Tommy Curtis has been named the Deputy Police Chief.

“I’m just once person,” said Burns. “I know there is a lot of high expectations for the police department, and me.
I feel like crime is not just an isolated situation. I think that it takes the community to [solve that]. I intend to lead with integrity, accountability, and service.”

Trey Martin has been named the Chief of the Fire Department. Both Courtney Reed and Jessica Cade have been named Deputy Chiefs.

“We put together a really good strong team with myself, Courtney Reed, and Jessica Cade,” said Martin. “We just look forward to continuing to bring a great service with the fire department and ambulance service to the public. And like, thank the mayor and Alderman and Alderwoman for their confidence in us, and we’ll try to maintain a good relationship with everybody and continue to provide a great service.”

Other department heads will remain interim for the time being, according to Mayor Thompson, with the rest of the department leads being announced at the next meeting.

The new department heads will serve at the will of the Board until the end of their elected term in May of 2029. It is rare for a department head to be replaced during their term.
