Comedian Shawty Mac brings laughs and change to Mississippi and beyond

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Bradie Hightower, better known as “Shawty Mac,” made a stop in Vicksburg on Sunday for the annual Celebrity Basketball Game. The Jackson, Mississippi native has gained national attention through his viral comedy, blending humor with community advocacy.

Hightower began his comedy journey about two years ago, after being told for years how funny he was. Raised in Jackson, he said he got into some trouble growing up and eventually moved with his family to Utica, where he attended Hinds AHS and Raymond High School.

His rise began with humorous trucking videos, but he soon shifted to everyday country life content.

“Originally it started with trucking,” Hightower said. “But I started showing them my everyday life… I just ran with it.”

He’s since used his platform to spotlight real issues in Jackson, including dangerous potholes and unsafe apartment conditions, often mixing comedy with serious messages.

One viral video — mocking potholes large enough to “swallow a car” — led to actual road repairs. In another, he visited Covington Park Apartments and joked with office staff about trimming overgrown trees himself.

“You see them trees out there hanging over? Hightower told the lady in the office.” I’ll bring my chainsaw back up here so yall need to cut them trees down out there.”

Although his videos are comedic, Hightower connects with people who often feel unseen. His most viewed TikTok, where he “lectured” a pretend girlfriend after a trail ride, earned over 2 million views.

Now performing stand-up in cities like Jackson, Shreveport, and across the South, Hightower hopes to expand into acting.

“I’m just trying to reach my highest level,” he said. “This just so happened to come to me.”

Despite growing fame, Hightower stays grounded — and focused on bringing smiles wherever he goes.

“I’m just a regular person who happens to be funny,” he said. “I just want to be that person who makes somebody’s day a little better.”
