MOUND, La. (VDN) — Two people were killed early Wednesday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 near Mound, according to Louisiana State Police.

The crash, which occurred shortly before 4 a.m. on July 9, claimed the lives of Keith Robinson, 69, and Rachelle Jefferson, 39, both of Monroe.

According to Troop F, a 2025 Toyota RAV4 was traveling east on I-20 when it was struck from behind by a 2001 BMW Z3, driven by Robinson. For reasons still under investigation, the BMW collided with the rear of the Toyota at a high rate of speed. Following the impact, the BMW veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Robinson and Jefferson, who was riding in the front passenger seat, were both unrestrained and died at the scene.

The driver and front-seat passenger of the Toyota, who were properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital.

Routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
