VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Mr. David Earl Spring passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 2026, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He was 77.

David was born on Tuesday, August 31, 1948, in McComb, MS to Warren Elwin Spring and Mae Evelyn Thornton Spring. He lived his adult life here in Vicksburg with his wife of 52 years, Annette McClung Spring. David is survived by two daughters, Kelli Dispenza (Chris) and Erin Spring (Blake Warnock); one granddaughter, Jayde Dispenza; his two sisters, Jane Lemen (Jerry) and Kaye Harris; his brother-in-law Dale McClung (Cindy); his sister-in-law Judy Marsicano; four nieces, Jill Couvillion (Billy), Jennifer Wozencraft (Shawn), Corey Jacobson (Jesse), Paige Bublik (Trey), and one nephew, Shane Marsicano (Donna).

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette McClung Spring; his brother, Randal Warren Spring; his father, Elwin Spring; and his mother, Evelyn Butler.

David worked for International Paper Mill for 46 years, starting in the woodyard and working his way up to Assistant Power House Operator, the position from which he retired in 2015. An avid hunter and fisher, David loved to share his wildlife stories with anyone who showed interest. He spent a significant amount of his time, when not working or at home, enjoying coffee and conversation at Delta Outfitters, previously Hadad’s, on Highway 61 North. So much so that his wife and daughters referred to it, lovingly and jokingly, as “his other family.” David never met a stranger, especially in parting ways. To spend time and talk with him earned one a lifelong friend that would do anything in his power to help others.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to David’s medical team for the extraordinary care and unending compassion provided to him over the last several years: Dr. Elizabeth Herrington and her staff at Jackson Oncology Associates in Vicksburg, Dr. Lee Giffin and his staff at Mission Primary Care Clinic, Dr. Paul Pierce IV and his staff at Merit Health River Region, Dr. John Adams and his staff at MS Urology, and Dr. David Halinski and his staff at Vicksburg Pulmonary. They all went above and beyond to make sure he received the very best care, all the way to the end.

Services will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home, visitation on Monday, February 9 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and a short visitation on Tuesday, February 10 at 10:00 AM, funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM with Brother Roger Creswell officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family requests that those able to come pay their respects dress comfortably. As David would say, “Don’t get all dressed up on my account.
