Edmond and Battle looking to do big things in 2024
Vicksburg High School football players Willie Edmond and Dennis Battle Jr. are expected to show out this season. Their season will begin in just a little over a week as they are in full preparation.
Edmond:
Willie Edmond is one of the returning offensive linemen from last year’s squad that finished with a winning season in 2023. He testified the Gators are all ready for this upcoming season and prepared to step on the field next week.
“We’ve been working and our coaches have us ready for anything,” Edmond said. “Our ultimate goal is to get that gold ball.”
Edmond is mostly known for his aggressive run-blocking ability but he also has a unique style of pass blocking. Last season, he made the All-County and All-District Team while he blocked for an offense that threw for over 1,500 yards and rushed for over 2,000 yards.
As Edmond stands at 6’3 and 280 pounds, he has now received offers to play at East Central CC and Millsaps College.
Battle:
Dennis Battle has been a name circling around VHS football for a while now as the outstanding linebacker is now in his senior year. The hard-hitting standout has only a few months left as a high school athlete and he plans to make the best of it with his team.
“We built a big depth chart this year and we plan to go all the way to get that gold ball,” Battle said.
Battle made a name for himself by walking down the line and blitzing his way through to make a play. He finished 2023 with 75 tackles, five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and three forced fumbles as he also made the All-County and All-District Teams.
Battle’s hard work has earned him many scholarships to teams such as Co-Lin CC, Alcorn State University, Mississippi Valley State and Hinds Community College. Last month, Battle verbally committed to MVSU.
Battle and Edmond were also both a part of the 2022 team that made it to North State. They are now led by Head Coach Christopher Lacey.
