Finlayson Resigns as Tallulah Mayor, Calls Role ‘Greatest Honor’
TALLULAH, La. (VDN) — Tallulah Mayor Charles Finlayson has submitted his resignation to the Louisiana Secretary of State, effective at the close of business Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
“During my tenure as mayor, it has been my greatest honor to serve the citizens of Tallulah,” Finlayson said in a statement. “I am proud of the progress made under my administration and remain confident that the City of Tallulah will thrive under new leadership.”
Finlayson cited health concerns as the reason for stepping down.
Under Louisiana law, the Tallulah City Council has 20 days to appoint a new mayor. If no appointment is made within that period, the governor of Louisiana Jeff Landry is authorized to name a replacement to serve until the next mayoral election in 2026.
As reported by the Madison Journal, District four councilwoman Marjorie Day will lead the next City Council meeting on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
