VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — George Flaggs, Jr, kicked off his 4th campaign for Mayor of Vicksburg on Thursday.

The campaign event was held at Delia’s Park in the 2500 block of Halls Ferry, in Marcus Bottom. The event featured live music, pizza and fellowship with supporters. Flaggs spoke briefly at the beginning saying, “I always start my campaign under that tree in The Bottom because it reminds me of where it all began.”

In a press release, Flaggs explained, “It was there that Ms. Delia, the park’s namesake, told him she believed he could one day be Mayor. Her encouragement planted a seed of hope and ambition that has guided his life in public service.

March 20 is also Flaggs birthday, “I’ve made it a tradition to start each new campaign on my birthday because there is no greater gift than the opportunity to continue serving this city. Every year it reminds me how far we’ve come and how much more we can accomplish together.” He turned 72 on Thursday.

After his brief speech, the DJ played a birthday dance and supporters celebrated with Flaggs.

Prior to becoming Mayor, Flaggs was a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1988 to 2013 serving District 55. He first ran for Mayor in 2013, was re-elected in 2017 and 2021. If he wins this race he will become the first four-term Mayor in the City’s history.
