Governor reappoints three members to State Board of Health

JACKSON, Miss. (VDN) — Gov. Tate Reeves has reappointed three members to the Mississippi State Board of Health (BOH). Elayne Anthony, Jim Perry, and Lucius “Luke” Lampton, MD, were appointed to six-year terms. The Mississippi State Department of Health is governed by an 11-member Board that meets quarterly to provide policy direction, which includes approving all rules and regulations.

Anthony, who has served on the Board since 2007, is Chair of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Jackson State University. She was also founding head of the Department of Communication at Belhaven University and Assistant Superintendent of Public Information and Staff Development for Jackson Public Schools. She holds a PhD from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Anthony is Chair of the BOH Nominating Committee.

Perry has served on the Board since 2019 and is Chair of the BOH Audit and Cannabis committees. He is Managing Director and Head of Structured Finance for the Municipal Products Group at Wells Fargo Securities and has overseen more than $25 billion in infrastructure financings for public and private entities across the country. His public service experience includes serving as Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director for Gov. Haley Barbour and as Legislative Director for U.S. Congressman Roger Wicker. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Government from the University of Virginia.

Lampton, the current Chairman, has served on the Board since 2006. He has practiced Family Medicine for over three decades in Magnolia, where he has an extensive private practice extending throughout Pike, Lincoln, Walthall, Amite and Marion counties. He is also Chair of the Certificate of Need Committee.

“Public health is a calling to serve others,” said Lampton. “My work on this Board allows me to serve the citizens of my state and promote and protect their health and quality of life. I am honored to continue to serve with the other members of this Board who are committed as I am to the welfare of all Mississippians.”

  • ·         Lee Ann Griffin, Pharm.D.
  • ·         Thad Waites, MD.
  • ·        One seat is vacant after Robert “Bobby” Moody’s recent retirement.
