The Hinds Community College men’s soccer team received the Tom Shepherd Sportsmanship Award for the 2019 season as the team that best embodies sportsmanship in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
Each year head coaches with MACJC vote to give the award to one team.
“It is an honor for us to receive this award,” said Eagles head coach Doug Williams in a statement. “Sportsmanship is something we stress to our players. We want to be known for respecting our opponents, officials, and the rules of the game.”
Tom Shepherd was head soccer coach at Hinds Community College from 1988 to 1999. He was a tremendously impactful soccer coach throughout the state of Mississippi and worked tirelessly to promote junior college soccer.
This is the second year in row that the Hinds men’s soccer program has received this reward.
