Hinds Track & Field Shines at NJCAA Outdoor Championships

RAYMOND, Miss.(VDN)—The Hinds Community College Track & Field teams delivered an unforgettable performance at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships, earning national recognition and showcasing the heart, grit, and excellence that define the Eagles’ tradition.

Competing against the top programs in the nation, the Men’s Team soared to a 9th-place overall finish, while the Women’s Team proudly claimed 10th. The combined efforts of these remarkable student-athletes resulted in an astounding 22 All-American honors and three National Runner-Up finishes.

Men’s Team Highlights

The men’s team made a bold statement with several podium finishes and record-breaking performances.

The 4x100m relay team of Jayval Wright, Raheem Pinnock, Robert Turner, and Craig Carson blazed to a national runner-up finish with a time of 39.60 seconds.

Matthew Sullivan captured 2nd place in the 110m hurdles, clocking an impressive 13.67.

Tavon Davis broke a school record in the 400m dash, finishing second at 45.40 seconds.

In the 4x400m relay, Davis, Wright, Carson, and Turner took 3rd place with a school-record 3:05.71.

Shadane Smith added a 5th place finish in the 400m hurdles, setting another school record at 50.37.

Women’s Team Highlights

The women matched the intensity with powerful performances of their own.

La’Nica Locker ran a school-record 22.99 in the 200m dash, placing 3rd.

Twyshanna Huie took 3rd in the 400m hurdles (59.27), with Tkyla Bennett placing 8th.

Queen Usunobun was 4th in the 400m dash (53.42).

The 4x100m relay team (Hope, Montgomery, Gaye-Leslie, Locker) earned 3rd place, tying the school record at 44.70.

The 4x400m relay squad (Usunobun, Locker, Huie, McDonald) also took 3rd, clocking 3:39.08.

From record-breaking runs to podium finishes, the Eagles left their mark on the national stage. The legacy of Hinds Track & Field is alive and well—and soaring higher than ever.
