Howard Allen Nelson: 1948-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Howard Allen Nelson also known as “General” and “Papaw” passed from this life on September 4, 2025, at the age of 77. He was born in Vicksburg on April 4, 1948. Howard retired from the Vicksburg District Corp of Engineers where he worked on the Dredge Jadwin.

He was preceded in death by his parents D. L. Nelson and Ethel J. Nelson, and his brother, Donald L. Nelson.

He is survived by two sons, Marvin L. Nelson (Hope) of Vicksburg and Koury A. Nelson (Gina) of Brandon; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hope Adams, Olivia Leigh Nelson, Danny Allen Nelson, and Neely Frances Nelson; and one great-granddaughter, Adelaide Hope Adams.

Visitation service will be at Glenwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 9, from 3 – 5 p.m.
