VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen held a meeting Wednesday, Dec. 24 and heard from Key City Park Director Ryan Kennard.

Kennard updated the Board on the month of November for the park. According to Kennard, the month was a record setting month on increasing profit and cutting costs.

“November and December typically is a struggle with all sports tourism. So with every problem is a solution to be found,” said Kennard.

The park hosted soccer matches for Porter’s Chapel, St. Aloysius and Warren Central High School. Additionally, Key City Park hosted VWAA baseball practices and games.

“We were able to maximize profit during the week,” said Kennard. “And this actually a brand new record for our food and beverage at the park. We spent less than a $1,000 for the entire month. The staff did a great job reducing costs where we could in order to maximize those profits.”

The park also hosted a Christmas in the Park event.

“We want more community engagement,” Kennard said. “So if anyone has questions or suggestions feel free to reach out. We are open to anything. So 2026 we are excited to get going. This is our busiest year to date.”

Kennard explained the park is slated to host fast pitch softball tournaments set for November 2026. The event will bring between 60 to 100 teams to Vicksburg. Kennard said 80% of the teams are outside of the county, and he projects an increase in economic impact due to hotel rooms and restaurant usage.
