COLUMBUS, Miss. (VDN) — The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS) is coming to Vicksburg to meet with students and families who are curious about the school.

A representative from MSMS will be at Vicksburg Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Founded in 1987, MSMS is the state of Mississippi’s only public, residential high school specifically designed for the academically gifted and talented students in the Magnolia State. The school, which is in Columbus, Miss. on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women, is regularly listed as the #1 public high school in Mississippi by niche.com . Newsweek ranked MSMS the #13 public high school in the Nation. The 114 graduates of the MSMS class of 2025 alone were offered more than $40 million in scholarships to universities and colleges across the nation, with over $11 million accepted.

“The most remarkable thing about MSMS, is at the end of the day, it is a public school.” said MSMS Admissions Counselor, Spike Harris. “We are home to students from every single background imaginable, all sharing a passion for learning. They want to be as successful as they possibly can, and MSMS is an opportunity to help them achieve that success.”

The student body of MSMS is made up of students from all corners of the Magnolia state. MSMS students spend their final two years of high school living, working, and playing with other bright and motivated high school students. Students interested in attending the school must apply during their sophomore year of high school. MSMS is currently accepting applications for the Class of 2028.
