Port Gibson woman shot dead in Vicksburg

At around 10 p.m. an argument between a couple escalated to a shooting leaving a Port Gibson woman dead.

According to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones, a Port Gibson woman has been shot by a man who is believed to have been in a relationship with the deceased. One report says the woman was 27-years-old.

The shooting took place on Halls Ferry just south of its intersection with Bowmar. The deceased and the alleged shooter were in a relationship and had an earlier disagreement. The shooter ran into the deceased at this location and the situation escalated into a shooting. The shooter, according to Chief Jones, had a different female in the vehicle with him. Chief Jones also mentioned a person who is pregnant and was involved in the incident but did not clarify if that is a fourth person or the third person in the vehicle with the shooter.

Halls Ferry is shut down at the location of the shooting while police investigate the homicide. Police are actively searching for the shooter.

UPDATE – 3:34 a.m. – The Vicksburg Police Department has identified the victim of the shooting as 21- year-old Aaliyah Sanders.
