Shots fired around town last night; one injured
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Several incidents of shots being fired rang out around the city last night, including in the 1300 block of Washington Street where one person was hit.
That report came in just after 11 p.m. in the 1300 block of Washington Street, near its intersection with Clay. One witness reported hearing five shots in the area. Almost immediately after the shots were fired, a man was seen running from the front door of a business in the walkway to the North Parking Garage. This morning, a noticable blood trail can be seen from the front door of that business heading east on the walkway, then south on the Washington Street sidewalk and up Crawford towards City Hall where a large amount of blood has stained the street.
According to VPDs Captain Curtis Judge, the “Vicksburg Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Washington Street on Friday, November 28, 2025 around 2300 hours (11 p.m.). We are asking anyone with information to contact the police deparment or Crimestoppers.”
The victim was transported to a Jackson area hospital with non-life threatening wounds, according to Captain Judge. The shooter has not been located at the time of this report.
Shots were fired at 11:53 p.m. on Cairo just off of 61 South. Another call of shots fired was reported on Athens at around 12:31 a.m. Reliable sources known to the Vicksburg Daily News report more 30 rounds were fired into a home in that area. A witness says they saw people get out of their vehicle “on the hill” and fire into the property. No one was injured in that shooting. Not far from there, on McAuley, another report of shots fired was reported by a resident at around 1:10 a.m. with no injuries.
It is believed all these incidents are related to a shooting incident Thursday night where a vehicle was struck.
Main Street Executive Director Kim Hopkins was downtown early this morning directing efforts to clean up the street prior to the opening of business today. “It’s like we have two downtowns, the vibrant beautiful shopping district with unique eateries and breathtaking views versus the late night party that gets out of hand sometimes.” Hopkins noted there hasn’t been a daytime incident in recent memory.
This is an ongoing investigation and police are not releasing full details at this time. The Vicksburg Daily News will update the information once it is made available.
